St Gregory's church dates to around 1370, but it stands on the site of a Saxon church existing since the 8th century. The historic highlight is a superbly carved 15th-century font cover with a telescopic bottom stage. Look for 15th-century misericords and bench ends in the choir and the mummified head of Simon of Sudbury (d. 1381) in the vestry.

St Peter's church is a stunning 15th-century building in the centre of Sudbury. It is remarkable to consider that St Peter's was not intended as a parish church at all, but rather as a chapel of ease for nearby St Gregory's church. It only became a parish church in its own right after the Reformation.

St Peters is a thatched 13th-century building with several Norman features, including a finely carved vestry doorway. The font is 15th century, with carved lions and woodwoses around the stem. In the church porch is an exhibition on the crash of Zeppelin L48 at Theberton in 1917, along with a section of the airship's frame.

St Mary Magdalene stands on a minor road near the famous Thornham Walks and hosts numerous historic memorials to the lords of the manor at Thornham Hall. Look for the grotesque figure of a Green Man over the porch, and the carved head of a bishop dated to 1336.

The thatched country church of Thornham Parva is a national treasure. The little church dates to the 11th century and houses a stunning 1330 altarpiece made for Thetford Priory and discovered in a stable in 1927. The walls are covered with 14th-century wall paintings.

In 1696 the villagers of Walberswick tore down the imposing medieval church and built a small church inside the south aisle of the medieval building. Surviving medieval features include a beautifully carved 15th-century pulpit, the base of a rood screen, carved bench ends, and a Perpendicular font carved with figures of woodwoses.
