An attractive stretch of meadows, grassland, and woodland along the banks of the Thames, Runnymede is the site where King John was forced by his rebellious barons to sign the Magna Carta in 1215. The remains of the 12th-century priory of Ankerwycke can be seen across the river, and nearby is the Ankerwycke Yew, thought to be over 2000 years old.
