Perfect Family Weekend
Our son booked this cottage for a family weekend for my 70th birthday. There were twelve of us, 9 adults and three children aged 5, 3 and 2. The five bedrooms were large and well equipped and just the right combinations for our family groups. The first floor bathroom was enormous and the second floor shower room a good size. The kitchen was spacious and well equipped as was the utility room. The dining room had seating for twelve and the lounge space for the adults. The second floor open-plan lounge area would have been ideal for teenagers to have their own space. As it was, it was used by my youngest daughter who had the little girls decorating a cake and presents out of my sight! Above all, the whole place was spotlessly clean. The only downside, although not a major problem, was the key collection. It was fine when we arrived as we came by car but my husband and I decided to have a night on our own on the Sunday when everyone else went home for school and work next day. We do not drive and although the Pheasant Inn said it was only a mile and a half away it was on narrow country lanes with no pavement and heavy traffic - not a place for country walking! We managed to get a bus there but then had to call a taxi to take us on to the railway station. A better system for people without transport would be helpful. However, we loved it and are all agreed we will do it again.

Had a really great week in the Lake District! Dolphin Cottage is in a good location for Lake Windermere, with plenty of space for 12 adults and we would visit again.

We all thought the facilities at Dolphin Cottage were excellent. The bedrooms and bathrooms were large, clean and modern. The kitchen and dining areas were were well maintained and spacious. The cottage itself is set within a picturesque village. We commend the outside areas of the cottage which were spacious and provided more than enough room for BBQs and off road parking. Overall our experience was excellent and we would recommend to a large group visiting the lakes.

Not fit for purpose
This cottage was not as described on the website, it was unclean and in need of a lot of maintainance to bring it to the standard described. The outside area was an either or situation in that if you parked 4 cars there was no room for children to play or alfresco dining. We had to weed the garden as it was full of nettles and the table tennis area was full of debri and broken flags. We had a dog and young children with us and they could quite easily escape through the gate. The kitchen was filthy and greasy . Some of the dining chairs were damaged and a few of the blinds were broken . We left early as we also saw mice in the lounge area. The shower in the top bathroom ran only cold water and the cistern in the first floor bathroom took 15 minutes to fill.

A perfect week in the lakes
The cottage was clean and roomy, we were a family party of eleven, ages From 11 to 70. The village had an excellent chip shop and two pubs, the table tennis table was a bonus and enjoyed by all ages. A good spot for visiting the Lakes.
