Filthy
We stayed at The Bluebell in a self catering capacity over the August 2021 bank holiday weekend. The premises was not ready at the specified hire time on Friday, it was still being 'cleaned'. Once in we found it generally dirty, we had to wash all the kitchen and bar equipment before use, the windows were dirty and mouldy, litter and dust was found behind all the bedside cabinets and at the edges of the beds. The bathrooms had hair around the white suites and in the plugholes. The large industrial bins outside were full and smelly, we saw rats around them. The field at the back was covered in litter and a dead pigeon was waiting to greet us on the patio! The House keeper apologised a lot during handover saying she had told the owner she could not turn the premises around in one day. (she had 2 adult cleaners including herself and just 5 hours for an 18 bedroomed property!) She raised her hands in despair over the fact that the groundsman had not been that day. Despite raising general issues around cleanliness on the evening of arrival by telephone the owner simply laughed at my suggestion that it needed a good steam clean. The housekeeper could not return that evening when we found that towels had not been left out as she had a young family so she gave us the linen room door codes instead - she said she shouldn't but didn't know what else to do. I felt quite sorry for her. The owner has disputed my complaint since consistently and seems unable to comprehend that it should not have been provided in this state. I have raised this with Visit England who have previously given it a good to go status (it is NOT). They are now investigating. Having paid nearly £6000 to hire the whole premises for a family weekend we were very disappointed. We also had no hot water for most of Sunday - it was resolved but was due to low pressure in the boilers so they clearly had not been serviced regularly. I have many many pictures of the unsanitary conditions - this premises was not clean to the standard of a paying guest pre pandemic let alone post pandemic. The whole experience has been made so much worse by the owners apparent lack of concern regarding the cleanliness of the property. It is quite simply a covid pit.

Fab but filthy
The accommodation and location were perfect for our large family get together. Unfortunately the stay was blighted with the general cleanliness of the place, especially the bedrooms, en suites, kitchen and outdoor areas, very disappointing especially in these times of covid, Would not and could not recommend unless the owners and or management team take responsibility for the many issues raised and were to act accordingly.
