The Museum of Zoology is part of the Department of Zoology at Cambridge University and it combines dual roles as a research facility and a zoological collection.The displays are a combination of currently living species and ancient fossils. In addition, there is an ongoing programme of special exhibits meant to illustrate specific scientific and zoological themes.

When Viscount Fitzwilliam died in 1816 he bequeathed his sizeable art collection to Cambridge University. From those beginnings, one of the great museums of Europe was born. In 1848 the University constructed a new building in grand neo-classical style to house the Fitzwilliam Museum. Today the museum has five distinct divisions, focused on Manuscripts, Coins, Paintings, Antiquities, and Applied Arts.

The Museum of Archaeology and Anthropology is part of the Cambridge University Faculty of Archaeology and Anthropology. This vast museum holds 750,000 exhibits, many related to African and Oriental studies. Some of the most historically interesting objects were collected by Captain Cook on his first and third voyages to the Pacific. There is also a very large collection of prehistoric remains from East Anglia.

The Institute houses a marvellous collection of archive material on early polar exploration, including records of the Scott expedition, a picture library, and a fascinating museum that tells the history of early attempts to reach both poles. This award-winning museum was shortlisted for the European Museum of the Year 2012.

This fascinating museum holds collections of fossils, rocks and minerals from around the world, including specimens gathered by Charles Darwin on his voyage to the Galapagos. There is a huge gallery of minerals, including gemstones, plus a gallery devoted to prehistoric wildlife in East Anglia. Another prize exhibit is the Woodward Collection, over 10,000 items collected by Dr John Woodward (1665 - 1728). The Woodward Collection was the first collection owned by the Sedgwick Museum.

The Whipple Museum is a fascinating look at the history of scientific discovery. The museum holds collections of instruments and scientific models dating back to the Middle Ages. Among the exhibits are scientific instruments used at Cambridge University dating to the 16th century. The museum is partially housed in an early 17th-century hall that was the first home of the Cambridge Free School. The museum is based on a collection of over 1,000 scientific objects and rare books donated by Robert Whipple in 1944.
