Hereford Cathedral wyevern misericord

Hereford Cathedral wyevern misericord

In the nave stand a set of Consistory Court Stalls. These were used as seats for the bishop and oficers of the church when conducting church courts. The stalls feature misericords, or 'mercy seats'. Most are modern reconstructions save for this 14th century example, depicting a mythological beast called a wyevern.
