Christmas celebrations
We stayed here in December the same weekend as the Stratford Christmas market. There were 6 of us and we had plenty of room. The house had been beautifully decorated including a Christmas tree and immediately put us in the festive spirit. Home made scones were also a welcome touch. The house was warm and comfortable. We just like to spend the weekend relaxing and enjoyed the selection of dvds available. We cooked all our own food using the aga and separate oven. There's a large fridge freezer for storage and a pantry. We also lit the coal fire although it was more for effect as we were never cold. A word of advice if you decide to go into Stratford at Christmas. Get a taxi. It's too far to walk and the roads are too busy. We drove in, got stuck in traffic and then struggled to park. There is also a National Trust property nearby where we also paid a visit. I would definitely recommend this property and would love to come back sometime.

Old world feel but overall a little disappointing
We recently stayed at Highcroft for a 70th birthday celebration. The house/cottage itself is very large with an 'old world' feel. The first impression is one of a home from home with a cosy feel although the aga does mean a very warm kitchen throughout the summer. The home made scones are a nice touch on arrival. The overly personal items such as family passports in the drawers left us feeling as though we were slightly intruding on someone's space. The older members of the group loved everything about the house and the furniture was exactly what they like. Unfortunately, those of us with children were concerned about several safety issues; the rugs that slipped, the glass greenhouse in the garden, the wobbly chairs, no locks on Windows etc The grounds were lots of fun with swings, slide etc being used a lot by the children. Again unfortunately the safety padding on the trampoline didn't fit so we didn't use. The tennis court was a great addition and the children loved playing here. On arrival we were setting up the rooms ready for the rest of family to arrive when we discovered the roll away single bed was broken with one set of the legs not working. We phoned the owner who did not see a problem with this and suggested one of the children sleep on the floor, this is not what you expect. We specifically booked a house for ten, there were ten people so we needed beds for 10. We lost all confidence in the owner sorting this issue and sorted a put up bed ourselves. Not what you expect! Lots of games, jigsaws, racquets and even a rocking horse but overall this would suit groups of older visitors and not ones with small children.

The cottage was everything we needed and a lot more. Couldn't fault the location and the grounds were immaculate.

A lovely homely large house, perfectly suited to house our guests celebrating a special birthday. The tennis courts were a bonus. There was a lovely atmosphere to it all.
