This lovely terraced cottage is located in the town of Pickering and can sleep five people in three bedrooms.

Castlegate Cottage is a terraced cottage in the market town of Pickering just seven miles from Kirkbymoorside. The cottage sleeps five people and has one double bedroom, one twin and one single with a family bathroom. Also in the cottage is an open plan living area with kitchen, dining area and sitting area with woodburner. Outside is roadside parking and an enclosed yard with furniture. Situated on the edge of the North York Moors National Park, Castlegate Cottage is a lovely family holiday cottage all year round.

A wonderful cottage at Christmas
A slightly hectic Christmas visit to family, with the children and the dog in tow was made all the more comfortable and enjoyable by the use of this wonderful cottage. The carefully and sensitively modernised interior gives you a good amount of space without losing the olde worlde charm that a cottage of this age should have. The ground floor is one large kitchen/diner/lounge, with a modern and well equipped cooking area, small (but extendable) table and comfortable lounge with wood burner. The back door leads to a small yard and outbuilding with washing machine and freezer. Stairs lead you up to a landing and large bedroom and bathroom with shower over bath, toilet and sink which make excellent use of the space. Up a further flight of stairs to a second landing, a single bedroom and large twin bedroom. Storage space is a little limited, but unless you bring an entire wardrobe, is enough for your needs for a week. The cottage was exceptionally clean, well equipped, had a Christmas tree and decisions and we had even been left bowls and a towel for the dog and foil trays for cooking the Christmas dinner. Located less than five minutes walk from the castle and woods, which are excellent for walking dogs in, parking is on street and we managed to park within sight of the cottage just up Castlegate. Five minutes walk into the main high street will find you facing a superb selection of pubs, cafes, independent shops and a well stocked Co-Op. We enjoyed our stay and would definitely return to this cottage.

The location of the cottage is perfect and we have already booked our next stay in pickering next year (in a different cottage). Great walks and pubs, and everywhere dog friendly. There is wifi in the cottage and it is quiet and close to the train station. It has some nice furnishings and two of the bedrooms are a good size but in our opinion it would be cramped with five people. There were three of us and we felt pushed for living space. There are some lovely curtains and ornaments but the property had obviously not been cleaned for several weeks. The fire hadn't been swept and was full of ash, there was dust on every surface, blobs of food on the bed throws and the floor unsuitable to walk on without shoes. The toilet pan and bathroom hadn't been cleaned either and there were cobwebs on the light fittings and ceiling. Very disappointing for the amount we paid. We did raise this with the owner who apologised saying she was away herself and was aware the property hadn't been cleaned, which to me is unacceptable. The garden is extremely small, about one meter wide and less than three meters long, so much so our dog wouldn't do her business out there as she must have thought it was another room. Oh, and there is only one wardrobe in the whole property big enough to hang a shirt in, which is a bit annoying.

The cottage was lovely and felt like home from home. It was decorated beautifully and was in an excellent location. I would highly recommend this cottage and will certainly be going to stay there again.
