A fantastic weeklong stay in a cozy cottage
We stayed at Beacon House for a week with our two children and it was such a pleasant experience for all of us. The house is clean and tidy, and well-taken care of overall, with a neat fireplace and fast internet connection. It's perfect just to stay there and cook your own stuff in the beautiful kitchen then go for a walk in the highlands-style mountain range near by -- it takes about 40 minutes to get to the mountain top where you'll see sheep and beautiful Galloway cattle grazing gracefully. But even before you get up there, you'll find yourself walking through the village/town center with its beautiful shops and cafes. We'd love to repeat the experience just to cook breakfast, walk up to the mountains, grab lunch somewhere in town and then have a cup of tea in the evening by the fireplace as we watch the not-so-inspiring but somehow addictive debates on BBC parliament.

Disappointing experience
A comfortable and convenient property. We had no contact with the owners or manager even by phone and were unable to report a broken push button flush in the downstairs toilet. We were therefore amazed to be requested to pay £50 for the repair, an exorbitant amount for a small breakage of probably just wear and tear. Sykes resolved the matter we asume, but we think we were treated very badly..
I have given it 4 stars as the property deserves it, and as for recommending it to a friend that would be with reservations

Superb stay
A gorgeous cottage which suited us just right for a week. It's only around 10 minutes walk from the station and around 15 mins into the main part of town, however, there are shops just two minutes away at Barnard's Green, including a super bakery and a surprisingly-well-stocked Co-Op. The cottage was lovely - comfortable, warm and quiet - it also had everything (and more) that we needed, in fact, we enjoyed ourselves so much, we didn't want to come home.
