Dun Troddan Broch
Dun Troddan Broch

Dun Troddan is a very well preserved broch in a stunning location in Glen Elg. The broch stands to about 25 feet high (about 8 metres) at its highest point. The walls are made of two thin shells with a gap between them. In the gap are stone stairs rising to galleries.

The main entrance is set at right angles to the stairs within the walls, so any intruder would have to progress around the wall before being able to access the wall cavity.

Another measure of defence was provided by a small guard chamber immediately beside the entrance. As you look at the broch interior walls you will notice two ledges, which probably provided support for interior timber floors.

About 500 metres to the west is Dun Telve, one of the best-preserved brochs in the Highlands. It is well worth a combined trip to see both brochs.
