Nice but chilly
This was our second visit to viola cottage with friends. It is a pleasant cottage with nice furnishings and we enjoyed it a lot the last time so wanted to return. This time however was a different story. We arrived at the cottage to find it was freezing cold throughout and no way of turning on the heating. We also discovered there was no hot water. I had took my 6month old baby with us and I was highly concerned over the welfare of my child as it was so cold-I had to wrap him in blankets and woolly hat, gloves etc. He had to sleep in bed with me as it was so cold at night and I was going to go home as a result as it wasn?t worth us getting pneumonia. We tried contacting the owner but there is no contact no. on the booking so we had to make an emergency call to Sykes. The man we spoke to was very helpful and concerned for us all and offered us alternative accommodation as he couldn?t contact the owner either. The heaters were very old and one was in need of repair having the cover hanging off. The hot water and heating did come on but only in the morning around 1-7am which meant by the afternoon it was cold again. We had to sit in blankets and wear wooly clothes all weekend and it was snowing outside dropping temperatures of -3 degrees outside! There was supposed to be four portable heaters in the cottage and we found one which we used for the baby to keep warm. The description of the cottage explains how we have a ?warm welcoming living room? this is not true unless you sit in there at 7am! There was no communication from the owner and they knew there was an infant coming so they should of ensured the property was warm for our arrival. The timer on the heaters needs to be adjusted. The cottage is also to accommodate six people and there is only 5 seats in the lounge. The stairs are very narrow and could easily cause an accident. It seems more money has been spent on colourful spotlights in the kitchen rather than decent central heating! Needless to say I will not be returning to this over priced and cold property. I am happy that Sykes kindly refunded us however.

Very comfortable and handy for the centre of town
Well equipped and comfortable 3 bedroom house. We loved the large kitchen and the patio area with covered area and heater so you can sit outside in all weather. The only minus was that we hadn't realised it was located on a busy road. We solved that by sleeping in the twin room in the middle of the house.

Home from home
Really lovely home to stay in , very close to the city centre and the station , yet quiet enough to sleep well at night . Beautiful modern kitchen with very efficient appliances . Plenty of crockery , cutlery and pots and pans , all of good quality . The little courtyard and fountain were lovely , although it was a little cold to be outdoors when I stayed . Very helpful to have a private parking space . I'd have liked to move in for good !
