Excellent stay at Blue Seas
After the last year of lockdowns we arranged as a pair of couples to get away to Cornwall for a week. Myself and my partner along with another couple travelled down from Yorkshire to Cornwall for a long awaited staycation.
If you are a foodie who is looking to sample the best that Cornwall has to offer I would certainly recommend St Mawes. It is a great hub in itself, but also easy to commute to other places.
St Maves is an extremely picturesque location. Upon arrival to Blue Seas the first thing which really grabs your attention is the view from the garden down to the sea. It is beautiful. When you get into the cottage it is very homely and has everything you need. The property is very spacious, and well kept. The showers in particular in both bathrooms were very powerful something we all commented on and enjoyed when we stayed. The beds were very comfortable and it was great to have a TV in the double rooms to retire to. The kitchen is fully equipment should you wish to stay in and cook and there was a lot of useful amenities available. This property would be great if you are looking to traveling in a larger group. There is plenty of room for everyone and two large reception rooms to congregate in.
We had an amazing time in St Maves, everywhere we ate was delicious. We would recommend The Watch House for some fancy fish dishes on an evening, make sure you pre-book. The Victory Inn has really friendly staff, they were very welcoming and the food was fantastic especially the starters. If you are traveling with people who want to watch sports then pop by the Bohella Bar which has a snooker table and darts board.
We ate everywhere St Mawes had to offer, our favorite day was waking up grabbing a coffee and light breakfast from The Cornish Bakery in the bay. Then we took the ferry from St Mawes to Falmouth and did a Cornish pasty making class at JH & M Choaks (available Monday to Friday pre-booking is required. John was amazing and had us in stitches throughout). We returned by ferry to St Maves and grabbed some local Cornish cheeses from Mr Scorse Gourmet Deli and spend a wonderful evening is together at the Blue Sea cottages.
We had a car and drove, so were able to do day trips every day visiting well known places like Newquay and Truro. But also went to places like Carnglaze an amazing cave run by a lovely couple. If you chose to go to the cave make sure to stop by Olive Co Cafe it's a hidden gem off the beaten track but really good breakfast/lunch. We even went to Falmbards theme park and watched a firework display. I could go on but part of the fun in going on holiday is the research. There is so much to do anywhere you go. A week was not enough!
We googled prior to arrival what we wanted to do and set ourselves an itinerary if only we had more time, but one thing I can promise is you would not get bored.
An extremely good stay would be an understatement and the views/surroundings of the property was incredible. We had a amazing time and would highly recommend it to anyone.
