Charming, rustic rental in idyllic location My family and I had a wonderful, relaxing stay at Medlar Tree Cottage. The accommodation is delightfully quirky and comfortable with plenty of space to relax. The bedrooms are a good size and we found the beds very comfortable. The location is so quiet that you are a guaranteed a peaceful nights sleep. The house was clean and extremely well equipped, we found everything we needed. The wifi in the property is excellent (better than at home!) so no problem if you want to watch Netflix on one of your devices. The leisure facilities are outstanding - we all enjoyed the pool (heated to a nice level), the hot tub (always at a lovely 40 degrees) and the sauna every single day of the stay.
The Smarts were very welcoming and friendly but not overly intrusive and it made no difference to us at all that their home is next door.
The location is a perfect base to explore Cornwall. We enjoyed several days out but the notable highlights were Jamaica Inn (a mere 6 miles down the A30) where we feasted on a delicious pub lunch in the dog friendly bar area and our lovely outing to Padstow (via the ferry from Rock) - Rick Stein fish and chips were out of this world!
We hired a transit van sized people carrier for our holiday and whilst you need to take it steady around the country lanes, it wasn't a particular challenge and the property has ample parking.
All in all we had a wonderful stay and would happily recommend this property. jlu411 2019-07-08
Needs some TLC Stayed here for 7 nights with my hubby 2 children and my parents. Its a nice large cottage but needs some tlc! A few things in the cottage need to be updated, the sofa needs to be renewed (shabby and seen better days) rugs are dirty and mould on shower curtains.Hot tub was only on 32c for most of our stay which is not hot enough for a hot tub. Overall our stay was ok because of the pool (kids loved it) and the weather was great. We love cornwall so we will be returning to cornwall but sorry to say wont be returning at the cottage, its ashame because without the few things that let it down, it would of been perfect! doddskim 2018-07-31
Idyllic Cottage in beautiful surroundings Beautiful cottage tucked away in Cornwall. My parents arrived before us and said mr smart had shown them around the house. The hot tub was lovely and hot and we spent quite a few nights out there. The pool is solar heated and due to the beautiful weather we had the pool was well used. Don?t expect a hot pool but when the weather is nice it's lovely to use once you get in. The lovely added surprise is that there is a box by the pool full of inflatables and balls etc which my 6 year old son loved! The garden is beautiful and perfect for spotting birds (we saw jays, yellow hammers and even a woodpecker) you don't get a phone signal at the cottage (ideal when you want to have a proper getaway) but the WiFi is great (was able to still watch nowtv at night on our tablet) Rooms were lovely. My parents had the biggest room with the adjustable bed, my husband and I had the smaller room with the on suite which was lovely and had a beautiful view of the field with the sheep and my son was ecstatic to have a room with a choice of three beds! My son also loved the infrared sauna which became the 'secret room?. Had lots of days out at flambards, the big sheep (a must see!) lands end and Hidden valley (also a must see) The cottage is in a perfect location to do attractions in both Devon and Cornwall. Mr and mrs smart were lovely. We are quite a friendly family and my son loved chatting to them. A lovely place to recharge and spend time as a family. Kimberley B 2018-06-09
Supervised Holiday! We have been looking forward to our 5 days stay in the cottage as we are a small family and with work and other commitments need it some time to relax.
When we arrive at the Cottage Mr Smart was waiting for us to show us around and give us instructions, but we were not aware that he actually leaves next door. As you arrive at the property you come to the front glass door which by the way does not lock nor does have blinds so you are on display all the time. The facilities were not as described as the pool was never heated and the hot tub was running on Economy with a temperature of 32 degrees, the underfloor heating never worked and the water in the house was also cold. The boiler is in a separate room on the site of the property with no access to it.
Also, the downstairs has no radiators only access to the fireplace, which by the owner's information was supposed to heat the whole downstairs as it could be controlled with a remote control that didn't work and the owner did not bother to repair.
We left the property 2 days earlier disappointed and feel we could have done better going abroad for the same money and for sure a better experience. ikaros21 2018-05-08
